It is a special soul that can find within itself the capacity to forgive  those who would take the life of one it holds dear. It is an even more  remarkable spirit that is able to channel such feelings of loss and pain into a moving anthem of forgiveness. Meet Droop  Lion, a man with a mission and an appointment with destiny. An  artiste possessed of a voice teeming with sincerity and a mind  suffused with curiosity.

Droop Lion was born Andrew Brown in the parish of St. Mary a  region in Northern Jamaica renowned for its large banana  cultivations and pristine musical talents.

Young Brown had an itinerant childhood due in no small measure to the fact that his     mother was a victim of the murderous mayhem which characterized life in the gritty shanties of Kingston.

His talent was recognized early but it would be a while before he would venture into the studios dotting the landscape on the outskirts of Kingston to seek musical expression.

His first efforts at recording were tentative and failed to provide an impact consistent with his musical promise. He would assume the moniker Droop Dog, perhaps intending to capture his characteristic humility. However an insistent radio announcer would demand a name change which she thought was reflective of the concealed passion she discerned in him. The Dog would soon become the Lion, and how he has roared.

Droop joined forces with Chiney K. Productions, and this collaboration would prove remarkably fruitful, spawning the haunting “Mama Soon Come”; the story of the loss of his mother rendered with a sense of sorrow and longing but bereft of any feeling of recrimination. A number of other notable recordings would result from his stint at Chiney K, including Gun Powder, a song bemoaning the violent culture prevalent in the urban centres of Jamaica, and Shadows of Darkness, a project decrying the forces of evil lurking places where we least expect them.

Droop Lion has demonstrated that special gift of addressing social commentary in a manner that is poignant without being inflammatory, treating his subjects seriously yet entertainingly. He is now working with Yahbell Entertainment/ Mix-it Productions.

The heavily rotated Freeway is an outcome of this incredible synergy. Lockdown a song of protest against police brutality, delivered with a sense of justice and social responsibility is another product of this fertile collaboration. It is vintage Droop Lion fingering injustice without calling for retribution. Yet there is more. Droop has pledged to deliver his debut album with the Yahbell Ent./Free spirit Music Group For  2012. It promises to be a delectable musical feast and the mark of an important chapter in the annals of Jamaican music.

Crisopolis, born Christopher Crooks hails from the parish of Saint Mary, Jamaica. A gifted musician with unique vocal skills, Crisopolis realized at an early age that music was his calling and yield to it’s very first harp. An established bass player and rhythm guitarist, Crisopolis writes and record his reggae and dancehall tracks highlighting socio-political and cultural aspects of Carribean life. He has toured the United States, Mexico, Europe and the Caribbean with Junior Kelly, Everton Blender, Anthony B, honing his musical talent in preparation on the launch of his first album. The album, Sirens From A Distance, recorded and produced by Richard “Chicken” Dawkins has popular titles such as “Distance Love”, “Ease The Pain” “Sirens From a Distance” among others, currently enjoying frequent rotations on the local and international airwaves . At 16 SOPHIA opened for some of the UK’s best such as Bristol based group Offside (Warner), Colourstone, Kosheen, and Mercury Prize winner RoniSize. Spring 2009, her second single ANOTHER DAY (Nervous Records) reached the top five on Billboard and was on all radio playlists around the country and stayed on the Charts for 17 weeks. She has done shows along side Lady GaGa, Michelle Williams and Cindy Lauper.

Laden, who is known for songs like Time To Shine, I’m Sorry  and Come Out  ft Gyptian and Chi Chichi, has been a hot topic since he officially signed with producer  Yahbell  and Stephen McGregor and the Big Ship crew last year.

During the two-hour long journey, Laden, born Okeefe Aarons, was beaming with excitement and alerted all his friends and family that he was coming in town .

The first stop was B.B. Coke High School and the singer, who described the place as the ‘starting point’, gave a tremendous performance for the students.

Number-one spot

Indeed, with his song Time To Shine sitting comfortably in the number-one spot on many local charts, Laden has become a celebrity to those in his community.

Certainly, Laden did not give the impression that he doesn’t believe in himself, but the singer made it clear that his success wasn’t self-made and dedicated it to his mother, Paula Forbes, and members of his Stunt Squad crew.

“Yea man. Mommy love me and she tek me music career serious,” said Laden, referring to his mother’s support.

In talking about his squad, he said: “We in the streets like every day. As school over, I used to take a taxi and go in the city (Junction City) and hang out. The vibes always great out there.”

As the team approached the home where the singer once lived with his mother and other relatives, some residents were already outside, anxiously waiting to see him, and the reception was fantastic.

“A laden that?” one questioned. “Yea, a him, Laden deh yah … mommy, look, a Laden,” shouted a little girl. His visit was brief but turned out great for community members who benefited from his generosity.

The remaining hours were spent in the town where Laden and his friends ‘built a vibe’, much to the delight of pedestrians and onlookers passing by.
